• Sanctuary Runners one of five charities (in Southern/Eastern Region) in race for funding from PTSB
• Live Online vote now open – and will remain open until March 14th
• The solidarity-through-sport organisation brings all the community together through running, jogging and walking
The starting gun has been fired in this year’s PTSB Community Fund competition and the Sanctuary Runners is calling on the general public to vote for them to help them secure vital funding.
Following a PTSB colleague nominations process, fifteen charities from across the country have been shortlisted for consideration; five across Dublin and surrounding counties, five across the North and West of the country, and five from the South and East.
In the ‘South and East’ regional category Sanctuary Runners is one of five charities in the running for funding. The two charities with the most online votes will be in line for significant support.
PTSB launched its Community Funding Programme for 2025 today with a commitment of €200,000 in funding to communities across Ireland. Last year, through the amazing work of the banks staff and volunteers, it raised €360,000 for the winning charities.
“To secure this funding would be just incredible and transformative for the Sanctuary Runners but we know it won’t be easy,” said Sanctuary Runners’ CEO Michael Darragh Macauley.
“We are up against four amazing organisations which do brilliant work. But Sanctuary Runners is a unique multi-award-winning organisation which builds bridges in the community, brings people together in solidarity, friendship and respect. It has positive social, health and wellbeing benefits and over the last seven-years some 30,000 people have taken part in a Sanctuary Runner activity. More funding would help us to build more groups, changes more lives, strengthen our existing groups and continue to spread our positive message of inclusivity through sport.”

The programme supports local communities by donating funds raised by PTSB colleagues throughout the year. The money raised by PTSB’s colleagues is matched funded by the Bank for an overall donation to charity. Each year, the Bank aims to donate c. €200,000 to its charity partners and to date, has contributed more than 2 million Euro to Irish community organisations, supporting local communities across the country.
Voting for the 2025 PTSB Community partners closes at 6pm on Friday, 14 March 2025 and the outcome of the public vote will be shortly thereafter.
