Hiko Tonosa, two time national champion who has represented Ireland in European athletics and cross-county championships and runs with DSD AC has this advice to give to anyone thinking of taking on a marathon.

For Sanctuary Runners who want to do a marathon, but are living in direct provision, they may not have a base. That means you have to start slowly and just improve your mileage slowly every week. It’s really important to listen to your body and to follow what your body is telling you. Otherwise, you will get injured or burned out.

Your mental approach to running a marathon is the most important thing of all.
