Share your Light of Solidarity this festive season

This Christmas, Sanctuary Runners is calling on people all over Ireland and the world to share a light of solidarity between Friday 15th and Tuesday 19th of December.

Drawing inspiration from former President Mary Robinson’s light placed in the window of Áras an Uachtaráin to welcome home our exiles and our emigrants, the #LightOfSolidarity will allow people all over Ireland to show their solidarity, friendship and respect with those who call, and have made, Ireland their home.

The old Irish tradition of a candle in the window to welcome friends or strangers on the road to shelter is as relevant today as ever. Our message is one of solidarity, refuge and welcome with all migrants, especially those seeking international protection. Now, more than ever, there is a need for all of us to show this solidarity, in a wave of light across the country this festive season.

If you wear your Sanctuary Runner t-shirt when you run or walk yourself,  or as a member of one of our groups, you can take a photo in your Sanctuary Runner top with any kind of festive lighting, candle or Christmas tree to show your Light of Solidarity.

As an individual, you might prefer to light a candle or put a lamp in your window, take a photo and share with us.

Either way, we would be honoured and delighted if you would join us by taking a photo or video of you with a #LightOfSolidarity which can be shared by you on social media or emailed to us at ailis@sanctuaryrunners.ie

Together we can spark hope and ensure the light of welcome reaches everyone this Christmas.
