Be a part of the biggest ever Sanctuary Runner team to take part in the Cork City Marathon – BUT REGISTER TODAY!

• Sanctuary Runners calling on people to run, jog or walk with them in the 10km distance
• The Movement aiming for more than 1,000 participants in the Cork City Marathon on June 1st
• Followed by their annual street party with music, food, dancing, craic and a visit from the Lord Mayor

The Sanctuary Runners is putting out a last call for people to run, jog or walk with them in this year’s Cork City Marathon on Sunday, June 1st.

Each year the not-for-profit movement which started in Cork City in 2018 has had large teams in the marathon – thanks to the generous support of long-time partners Cork City Council.
But this year they are hoping to break the four-figure total for the very first time.

And the ask is focussed on the 10-kilometre distance rather than the full or half marathon.

“Already we know hundreds of people have registered to take part in the marathon with the Sanctuary Runners but we really want to surpass that 1,000 runners mark. Included on our team will be 250 people currently living in Direct Provision centers in Cork and across the country. Our huge team will send out a signal of solidarity, friendship and respect from Cork to the world,” said Graham Clifford, the organisation’s founder.

But he’s pleading with people to book today if they want to take part in the marathon with the Sanctuary Runners.

“So wonderful has been the organisation of the marathon this year that the places are selling out faster than ever – its extraordinary. So if you want to take part as a Sanctuary Runner please register today to avoid disappointment.”

To register got to Cork City Marathon – Cork City Council  and register for the 10km distance. On the registration form you will be asked if you want to take part as a Sanctuary Runner, please tick the box saying yes.

Please note that none of the proceeds of registration go to the Sanctuary Runners.

Then organisers will be in touch and we will make sure to get your running top to you in plenty of time!

And if you’ve already registered to take part over any distance in the marathon and want to run as a Sanctuary Runner (but didn’t tick the box when signing up) there will be an opportunity to rectify that so you can be part of our team.

The Sanctuary Runners use running, jogging and walking to bring everyone in the community together including people who have moved from other countries and especially those seeking safety and sanctuary in the international protection system.

We do not ask people to fundraise for us – but if you wish to do so then the Sanctuary Runners is one of the official charity partners of the Cork City Marathon. When registering to take part there is a charity fundraising section on the registration form. You’ll find ‘The Sanctuary Runners’ in the drop down option of official charity partners and we would be so grateful for anything you can give. BUT AGAIN its completely optional.

Perhaps your colleagues, friends, family members, neighbours, school or work place would like to take part with us on June 1st – and walkers welcome too over the 10km distance.
For more information contact Graham@Sanctuaryrunners.ie and we’ll help you get to the start line!

BUT VERY IMPORTANTLY, DON’T DELAY! Once the race is full, it’s full. Book now avoid disappointment and join the blue wave of solidarity, friendship and respect!
