The Sanctuary Runners are delighted to announce that Sikhulekile Ruth Ndlovu will be our new Regional Development Officer in the Midwest region covering the counties of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.
Ruth, a student of business studies, accounting and finance at the University of Limerick, has been a Sanctuary Runner since 2019 and a long-time advocate for people living in Direct Provision and access to opportunities, services and equality.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me to help bring the Sanctuary Runners to more people living in our region – including those living in the Direct Provision system. This initiative helps breaks down barriers, to run, jog or walk together – it sounds very simple but actually it’s enabling a hugely important step to be progressed, that of bringing people together as equals to share in something positive and develop friendships and better understanding in the process. I can’t wait now to get going.”
Originally from Zimbabwe but living in Ireland since 2015, Ruth will work to grow our existing Sanctuary Runner groups in Limerick and Clare while helping establish new groups in Tipperary.
“We’re so delighted that Ruth will work with groups in the Midwest as we seek to develop the Sanctuary Runner movement across Ireland,” explained Graham Clifford, CEO and founder of the Sanctuary Runners.
He added: “Her drive, compassion and determination to bring society together in solidarity, friendship and respect will benefit everyone in the three counties of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary who run in one of our blue Sanctuary Runner tops.”
The Sanctuary Runners’ Regional Development Officer post in the Midwest is made possible thanks to funding from the Reignite Midwest Programme from Rethink Ireland.
